Julie Bullerman: Rider Profile

Julie Bullerman has been involved with the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride since the first ride in 2009. At first, it was just a fun event that just happened to raise money for a great cause. She enjoyed the summer training rides. But over the years, after hearing stories from the beneficiary nonprofits who take turns providing support on the rides, her reason for riding changed. She learned that the Ride benefits a variety of organizations that provide crucial services that you might not be aware of unless you’ve had breast cancer. And the money stays right here in Central Texas.

Then the mother of her stepchildren was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“When she was diagnosed, Wonders & Worries, a ride beneficiary, was there to help the kids,” Julie recalls. Julie started bringing her step-daughter to the training rides, so she could feel like she was doing something to support her mom. She got to see other women who had beat breast cancer who were riding and doing well. “That brought her hope when she needed it,” Julie says.

So, last year Julie, her husband, and the kids rode the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride together.

Who else does Julie ride for?

“Unfortunately, it's too many women to name,” she says. “I have several close friends involved with the ride who are survivors. My grandma was diagnosed in her late 80's and was a survivor until she passed away in her early 90's.”

The ride is about a lot more than the bike.

Julie says she’s watched women who are newly diagnosed be inspired by other riders. “Seeing other women come out the other side helps give them hope and strength,” Julie says.

“As long as the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride is around, this will be a family event for us every year,” Julie says.
